The Paimpol-Bréhat site continues its integration into the OPEN-C Foundation. Officially created in March 2023, it will be the offshore testing center for Marine Renewable Energies (MRE) in France. The historic partners of the Paimpol-Bréhat site are working with the public authorities on the site’s transfer, its authorizations and its assets, which should be completed by spring 2024. The operational transfer is already in place, with a team involved in site management and the appraisal of future test projects.
Completed in mid-2023, the European TIGER project, co-funded by the Interreg France (Channel) England program and the Brittany Region and EDF, has enabled the site's infrastructure to be adapted to the needs of developers (0.35 M€ invested in 2022) and to position the site at the heart of the development of the tidal turbine industry in Europe. As part of the TIGER project, environmental studies at the site and throughout Brittany have led to a better characterization of the tidal turbine resource and a clearer understanding of the potential for developing this industry in the region.
After this milestone year, the Paimpol-Bréhat tidal turbine test site is now a strategic tool at European level to help qualify tidal turbine demonstrators and prepare for future pilot and commercial farms.
